Josafina

For my Multimedia Mise-en-Scène project, my goal was to represent Josefina and who she was, a Latina jazz singer from Colombia who moved to New York. I wanted to show her life from being famous to a peaceful life using color, lighting, and symbolic props. Her story is based on love and loss. She had to heal after her husband Antoni’s death, showing how she found comfort through baking and music.

To create Josefina’s world, my group and I created a warm luxurious apartment setting with big windows, jazz records, pastries, and calm lighting. Each prop symbolized a part of her identity: the record for her music, the pastries for her rebirth, and the red lipstick for her confidence and passion. We used warm lighting to represent comfort and her music to balance her past and present. Her soundtrack included artists like Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, and Romeo Santos. This music that represents both her Latin roots and jazz soul.

While developing Josefina, we had to focus on representation using symbolic things. Color and setting were used to show more of her identity and resilience. She challenges stereotypes by portraying an older Latina woman who is strong, creative, and full of love. Working with my group taught me how each mise-en-scène choice. From props to composition. This helps express character emotion. Our final project came together very nice, and Josefina’s story was created

Sci-Fi Research

How is it Science Fiction?

Sci-Fi, is a genre that focuses on a futuristic technology, space, time travel, and other imaginative scientific ideas of the universe. It can often explore how these advancements affect and change humanity. Lots of people enjoy Sci-Fi because it can allow them to experience the unknown, imagine the future, and think about the role of science in society. The genre is also visually exciting and filled with mystery and adventure.

10/8

In my class and through my project I learned a lot about how sound can impact video. It is so crucial to make media presentable and high quality. Sound can take control of what the audience feels and understands about media.

I had to do 2 sound projects. The first one I had to compile a list of sounds and tell a story though only audio. My approach was kind of to take the story on how ever the sound takes it and follow the sound while controlling it at the same time. My ideas came from sitting down and thinking of different situations where a lot of loud sounds could be used to tell a story. My outline that i created gave me an idea of kind of what i wanted to do. The editing resource that I like is clipchamp it is super intuitive and easy to use. To be honest I think i did a good job making my project but, my main critique would be not finding the best possible sounds. It was very hard to find sounds that can aline with the story i was trying to tell.

The second project I had to add sound to a short story i created with no sound so i could bring it to life. My approach to this was too watch the video and immagine what i would hear and what ever i heard was the type of sounds i would look for. That is also where my ideas mostly came from. The outline that i used was just my video that i already created, it gave me a guide on what sounds i think would fit in. The editing resource that I like is clipchamp again. Once i again i do think i did a good job but the main 2 things i could have done better is using better sounds and cleaner cuts for my audio and video.
