How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
During the project, several of my production skills improved through practice and experimentation during filming.
One major development was camera work and shot composition. Filming different camera angles and framing techniques were tested to see what looked visually nice. As filming continued, camera shots became more intentional. Close-ups were used to emphasize emotion, while medium shots helped show physical movement during training scenes. Understanding how framing and camera placement influence the audience’s perception helped create a more cinematic and engaging final product.
Another important skill that developed was lighting and visual atmosphere. While filming the gym scenes, the natural lighting in the location was not strong enough to create the tone needed for the film. Because of this, additional lighting devices were used to improve visibility and create stronger contrast in the scene. Adjusting lighting helped highlight the subject and create a more intense and focused mood. Learning how lighting shapes atmosphere helped improve the overall visual quality of the production.

Host (Intro):
Welcome to Reel Talk where we discuss the creative process behind our film project. In this episode, we’ll be reflecting on the production process and how our filmmaking skills developed throughout the project.
Host:
So to start us off, let’s focus on CCR Question 3: How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
Me:
Throughout the project, my production skills developed a lot, especially when it came to camera work and lighting.
At the start of filming, we were still figuring out how we wanted the shots to look. We tried different camera angles and framing to see what visually worked best for the story. As we continued filming, I started to understand how different types of shots could affect how the audience experiences the scene. For example, we used closer shots during more intense moments to highlight the emotion and focus of the athlete, while medium shots during training scenes allowed the audience to see the movement and effort.
Host:
That makes sense. What about the technical side of filming?
Me:
Lighting was another area where my production skills improved. When we filmed in the gym, the natural lighting wasn’t strong enough to create the tone we wanted. Because of that, we used our own lighting devices to help shape the scene and make it look more professional.
Host:
Did that change the atmosphere of the scenes?
Me:
Yeah, definitely. Adjusting the lighting created stronger contrast and made the scenes feel more intense and cinematic. It also helped draw more attention to the athlete and the environment around him.
Overall, this project helped me start thinking more intentionally about filmmaking. Technical choices like camera angles and lighting can really influence the mood of the film and how the audience connects with the story.
